About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Nashville, Monell's stands as a beloved Southern restaurant that doubles as a cherished historical landmark. Celebrated for its warm, communal dining experience, Monell's invites guests to savor the essence of Southern hospitality through a menu rich with soulful, comforting classics. From the first bite of their Famous Skillet Fried Chicken paired alongside creamy Corn Pudding, to the delightful finish of their luscious Banana Pudding or tangy Lemon Chess Pie, every dish echoes generations of culinary tradition.

The charm of Monell's lies not only in its food but in the way it is served. Departing from conventional dining, this family-style Southern restaurant sets guests at large community tables, encouraging effortless mingling and the creation of instant bonds. Diners share plates of Collard Greens, Pulled Pork, Country Ham & Biscuit, and Chicken and Dumplings, passing each dish around amid lively conversation and laughter. This arrangement transforms a meal into a memorable gathering reminiscent of heartfelt family celebrations.

The menu’s versatility is remarkable. Whether you're delighting in a Sunday Brunch with Ham Sausage Patties, Bacon, and Peach Jam or indulging in a warm Thursday lunch of Sliced Roast Beef with Gravy and Meatloaf, the offerings feel both familiar and exceptionally crafted. Turkeys, fried catfish, and barbecue pork add to the hearty selection, while lighter touches like Cucumber Salad and iced tea keep the palate refreshed. The daily specials—Spinach Stuffed Shells and Pot Roast on Tuesdays, Meatloaf and Pulled BBQ Pork on Saturdays—add a welcome rotation to this ever-inviting spread.

Monell's late-night accessibility is a hidden gem for night owls craving a comforting meal, opening as late as 11 pm and staying welcoming until 3 am. This flexibility, combined with their hearty fare, makes it the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the vibrant Nashville night.

Patrons consistently praise Monell's not just for its mouthwatering recipes but for the undeniable warmth of its atmosphere. As Steve Fulse shares, the experience extends beyond food—sitting with strangers who quickly become friends transforms dining into a shared celebration. Erica Meza and Andrea Webster echo this sentiment, highlighting attentive staff, generous servings, and the genuine feeling of being embraced by a Southern family. Lily Mullen’s note about the early arrival to beat the crowd and the communal table setup perfectly captures the dynamic energy of Monell’s hustle and bustle.

Stepping into Monell's is like entering a living storybook of Southern cuisine and culture, where every dish tells a story, and every meal is a heartfelt occasion. For visitors seeking authentic Nashville flavors in a setting that fosters connection and comfort, Monell's is nothing short of a culinary treasure.

Needed a late nice spot to eat to soak up some liquor, while vacationing in Nashville. This place opens at 11pm and closes at 3am. Food was great. Family style dining. Sat with strangers left with a few new friends... Highly recommend..even if not for late night eats... atmosphere was very welcoming.

Monell’s in Nashville delivers a truly memorable Southern breakfast experience. The dining style is a bit unconventional, but that’s part of its charm—and we didn’t mind it at all. From the moment we sat down, the food kept coming, served family-style and in wonderfully generous portions. Everything was delicious, comforting, and full of classic Southern flavor. The atmosphere felt welcoming and communal, making the meal feel more like a gathering than a restaurant visit. We enjoyed every minute and left completely satisfied, both by the food and the experience.

Great community table experience! Our group of 6 shared a tablet with another similar group. The food was standard breakfast dishes with the Southern flair. The staff was very attentive. We arrived before 9 with no crowd, but drove back later and it was quite crowded! Reservations recommended!

This is a must visit dining spot. The experience of eating with others makes it so special. You sit with a group of about 12 people and the food is served family style. The server brings out the plates and everyone passes them around, which reminded me so much of family gatherings and Thanksgiving. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was attentive and friendly. Such a fun and memorable way to enjoy a meal.

This joint is amazing all around. If you've never been to a place like this, you are in fir one hell of an experience. Amazing food, great service, and interesting company. You're seated with a table of other folks, and the dishes of grub get passed around the table. You grab what you want from the dish and hand it off to the next person. The best part are the conversations that come out of being sat with strangers. You never know who you'll meet or what you'll learn.

Their sign out front says it best: “Enter as strangers, leave as friends.” And it couldn’t be more true! The food was absolutely awesome — good old-fashioned Southern comfort served family style. You sit down at a big table with 10–12 other folks, pass the food around, and before long you’re chatting and laughing like you’ve known each other for years. We’re from out of town, so being “forced” to meet new people made it even better. The service was fantastic, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and the entire experience something truly special. If you’re ever in Nashville, make Monell’s a must-stop. You won’t just leave full… you’ll leave with new friends.

Driving through Nashville on our way home from vacation and we randomly picked this place for brunch. I was expecting a long wait however it wasn't long at all considering we didn't have a reservation .They serve everything family style and you sit at a large table with other patrons so be prepared to make friends. The pan fried chicken, peach preserves , fresh country sausage and fluffy biscuits were my favorite part. This is a southern comfort, all you can eat delight! Not to mention the house is charming and the price is cheap for all the food you get!

Monell's family style dining is not just a meal, it's an experience. Their sign says "Enter as strangers and leave as friends." As customers arrive, they are seated at a large table until the table is full. There were three different groups seated at a table for ten. Then food is brought out and passed around the table. We lunched on a Thursday afternoon around two o'clock and were seated immediately. The meal consisted of delicious sweet corn bread that was almost like cake, biscuits, butter, preserves, cole slaw, cheesy mac and cheese, corn pudding, green beans (these were so good, cooked in some kind of broth), pineapple casserole, fried chicken, tender barbecue chicken, roast beef, and gravy with bread pudding for dessert. We were all stuffed. I also enjoyed the beautiful landscaping, the antique furniture, murals, and teapot collection. Highly recommend if you stop to eat in Nashville.
